Air Fryer Hot Dog

Quick easy steps to making the best hot dogs inside using your air fryer and not going out into the fringed cold in these Canadian winters.  Just follow the next set of steps and you’ll have the most mouth watering hot dogs ever!

Do you need to flip hot dogs in the air fryer?

Because the air fryer circulates hot air all around the food, flipping isn’t crucial, but it can produce a better hot dog. Flipping allows all sides of the hot dog to get close to the heat, resulting in franks that cook more evenly and have a nice crisp skin. Even if you don’t flip your hot dogs, they’ll still taste delicious.

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, if required.
  2. Using a small, sharp knife, cut 3 or 4 shallow slits into each hot dog. For a spiralized hot dog, insert a long wooden skewer through the length of the hot dog. Hold a small, sharp knife at an angle into the hot dog, rotating the skewer until the knife runs down the full length of the hot dog. Remove the skewer.
  3. Working in 2 batches (4 hot dogs a time), air fry the hot dogs, turning them halfway through, until crisp and heated through, 5 to 6 minutes. Use a paper towel to wipe grease off the base of the air fryer basket.
  4. Place the hot dogs in the buns. Working in 2 batches, air fry the hot dogs and buns until the buns are toasted, 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with mustard, relish, ketchup, or any toppings you like!

The Hot Dog Bun:

If your like me you don’t like the soggy texture of wet soggy breads. So lets warm up this bun in a clean air fryer basket.

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400ºF for 4 minutes.
  2. make sure the buns are open
  3. cook buns in air fryer for 3- 5min at 360ºF so that you don’t over toast the buns it’s best to cook at a lower temp.

What do you serve air fryer hot dogs with?

Any condiment, topping, or pickle you would normally adorn a hot dog with is fair game. Whether it’s a standard squirt of yellow mustard and spoonful of relish, or delicious chili and cheese, you can’t go wrong. Me I like the classic French’s Ketchup and mustard with a topping of relish.
